Le
Mont Saint Michel: France’s number 1 most visited monument
and part of Unesco’s World Heritage. Spend half a day visiting
its Abbey, Tiphanie’s house, walk around The Ramparts, the
terraced gardens and admire its medieval and narrow streets. This
is a really special experience.
Le
Scriptorial d’Avranches : a modern and interactive
museum open to all ages to discover the story behind the making
of Le Mont Saint Michel and its medieval manuscripts. This is highly
recommended and compliments a trip to Le Mont itself very well indeed.
Le
Musée Christian Dior de Granville : his birth
town gives CD homage through this museum with a different exhibition
every year and its magnificent gardens. Very popular with girls.
The
Bell foundry of Villedieu-les-Poêles : English or
French guided visit possible. This is one of the last three Bell
foundries left in France where they still use medieval methods and
is one of the most popular tourist atactions in Basse Normandie.
La
Tapisserie de Bayeux : relating William the Conqueror’s
exploits in 1066 with scale model retelling the story and a short
film recounting the history of these famous events. Audio guide
in French or English. Very popular indeed and can be combined well
with visits to the WWII sights in the area.
Arromanches
360 : a 15 minute film which places you at the heart of
the action on D-Day. An 11+ activity. This a moving and atmospheric
experience accessible to all nationalities.
Le
Mémorial de Caen : A vast and modern museum to remember
WWII, The Cold War and Peace. This is a fascinating sight that will
occupy students for the whole afternoon.
Le
Cimetière Américain and Omaha Beach at Colleville-sur-Mer
: A chance to witness the most bloody of the landing beaches and
the monument raised to the Americans who fell in Normandy. This
is a moving and impressive experience for all. |
